My Teachers

"Agnyaana Timiraandhasya
Gnyaana Anjana Shalaakayaa
Chakshuhu Unmeelitam Yenam
Tasmai Sri Gurave Namaha".

Meaning: A Guru can save us from the pangs of ignorance (darkness) by applying to us the balm of knowledge or awareness of the Supreme, I salute such a Guru.

My first teacher in my life is my Mother. She thought me all subjects till my College studies.

Mothers are our first teachers as ........

"Men are what their mothers made them".

I had my primary education in different places as my father gets frequent transfers. I started my education at Gudur, Andhra Pradesh, then at Nellore, Kota and finally at Kavali. I studies up to my +2 in Kavali.
I am really thankful to my teachers in Viswodaya Boys High school, Kavali; especially Kumaraswamy, Sarada madam and Sudhakar.
I really know how to create a goal in our life after I met my +2 teacher S. M. Bhasha (Zoology), Bhasava Raju (Botany), G.G.K Murthy (Botany), B. R. K. (Chemistry) and Viswanatha Reddy (Physics). They really thought me their subjects very well, which are helping me till date.
When I was new for Biotechnology in Under Graduation (at M. P. R. Degree College, Visakhapatnam), Dr. Swathy Acharya (Microbiology) and Krishna (Botany) helped me to learn faster and I really achieve success in this area during my BSc course.
I should also say thanks to my MSc teachers (Andhra University, Visakhapatnam), Prof. T. Ramana, Dr. Umashankar and Dr I. Bhaskar Reddy for their beautiful teaching skills.

Dr. Polumetla Ananda Kumar

Dr. P. Ananda Kumar is Principal Scientist in NRC on Plant Biotechnology, IARI, New Delhi. His main research field is Transgenic plants for insect resistance (Bt). He is very sincere and hard working. His group is the largest group in ICAR, when I joined in his lab.
My research career started in his lab. I don’t know much about research, except theoretical knowledge, when I joined his lab. I learned lot of molecular biology techniques like Cloning, Tissue culture, Transgenics, Gene synthesis and Molecular markers. It’s really fortunate for me to get the opportunity to work under his guidance. A student can learn things only if the teacher is co-operative, encouraging and thoughtful. I can say his lab is the best place for people who have enthusiasm to learn things and to get publications. He never says no if you need anything for research. I joined as Senior Research Fellow in NATP-project for “Insect resistance transgenic pigeonpea, rice and cotton”. He treated us like his own students, encouraged us to register for PhD, and guided us to design a good thesis work. He cared us a lot as a guardian (as we are far away from our home place). What else a student needs from his teacher? He is my Best Teacher, from whom I learned not only research work, also the attitude of a research scientist. I can proudly say I am student of Dr. P. Ananda Kumar.

Prof. Prakash Chand Sharma

Prof. P. C. Sharma is Dean, School of Biotechnology, Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, Delhi. His thoughts are productive and analytical. He design thesis works very well for his students. He is very sincerely in his work. His main area of research is Molecular markers in crop plants. He has a very good background in plant breeding.
When I met him first time, he is coordinator, Biotechnology, Ch. Ch. Singh University, Meerut. Neither I know him personally nor Dr. Ananda Kumar. I just went and asked him for my PhD registration under his guidance, and he agreed immediately. While designing my PhD thesis work, I surprised, he is very much updated in all areas of Biotechnology. Generally we see scientists who are more updated in their field of interest. But Prof. P. C. Sharma is not of that kind. He always goes through latest literature and update in all areas of Biotechnology. Now he is in a right position as Dean, School of Biotechnology, G. G. S. Indraprastha University. The University students should be grateful to have a Professor like Prof. Sharma. He is very good in management too, which is very much essential for Deanship. I learned a lot of research skills and management skills form him. He always ready to discuss with his students even if he is busy at his work. He is very friendly with his students. He thought me how to write a research paper. In my MSc, I don’t know even what a research paper is! But its only because of his guidance, my first research paper could be an international (Genetic Resources and Crop Evolution)! It’s a great achievement for me. I am very fortune to have great teacher like Prof. P. C. Sharma as my PhD Chairman. Throughout my research career, I can proudly say Prof. Sharma is my PhD Chairman.

As in our Sanskrit verses

"gurubra.rhmaa gururvishhNuH
gururdevo maheshvaraH |
guruH saakshaatparabrahma
tasmai shrii guravenamaH" ||

Meaning:Guru is verily the representative of Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva. He creates, sustains knowledge and destroys the weeds of ignorance. I salute such a Guru.
I really Salute, Dr. Ananda Kumar, and Prof. Sharma as my Gurus.

Dr. Subba Reddy Palli

Dr Subba Reddy Palli is Assistant Professor, Entomology, University of Kentucky.
He is very hard working and knowledgeable person. He is very soft cornered. He, being an Assistant Professor, still do his bench work (research), which I haven’t seen before from any scientist! He has a lot of industrial experience. He is really good in managing lab funds and lab people’s work. That is what a potential should scientist posses.
He gave me an opportunity to work in his lab for “Development of Ecdysone based gene switch in mammalian system for medical use”, which is very promising area of Biotechnology for Gene therapy, Functional genomics and Therapeutic proteins. I am really grateful to him for giving me this opportunity. I am really proud to work in such a great lab and great work. This can be my turning point for my future career. After I saw him working in the lab as research fellow even at this stage, without any ego, I felt, I should take him as my Idol for research. I still have a lot to learn many things from him!

The best quotation for his teaching quality is: -

"A teacher's purpose is not to create students in his own image,
but to develop students who can create their own image".

Dr. S. R. Palli
